Drag and the best speeds

9 min read

Two families

Parasite drag (form, skin friction and interference) grows with V².

Induced drag comes from making lift: air flows around the wing tips into wing-tip vortices and the lift tilts backwards. It is largest at low speed / high angle of attack and falls roughly with 1/V².

IN THIS LESSON

  • Total drag
  • Reducing induced drag
