Dangerous goods and long-range rules

7 min read

Dangerous goods

Items that can harm health, safety or property are carried only under the ICAO Technical Instructions (Annex 18). They are grouped in nine classes: explosives (1), gases (2), flammable liquids (3), flammable solids (4), oxidisers and organic peroxides (5), toxic and infectious substances (6), radioactive material (7) and corrosives (8); lithium batteries are class 9.

The commander gets written information (NOTOC) about dangerous goods loaded as cargo. Passengers may carry only limited items, as the operator explains.
