Standard masses and the load sheet
7 min read
Standard or actual
Operators may use actual masses (weighing passengers and baggage) or standard masses from EU Air Ops. With 20 or more passenger seats an adult counts as 88 kg male / 70 kg female including hand baggage; with 30 or more seats a single 84 kg for all adults may be used instead. A child counts 35 kg; an infant on an adult's lap is already included in that adult's standard mass. Holiday charters use lower values. Checked baggage has its own standard masses.
If a significant number of passengers are clearly heavier or lighter than the standard (a sports team, for instance), the operator must use their actual masses.
