Pitot-static instruments and their errors

The system
The pitot tube senses total pressure; the static ports sense static pressure. The airspeed indicator uses the difference (dynamic pressure); the altimeter and the vertical speed indicator use static pressure. Modern aircraft feed them through air data computers.
